So…remember that cute dog I posted a picture of yesterday?
The one that reminded everyone to change their clocks?
Turns out, she doesn’t quite understand the concept of time measurement.
She knows when the sun comes up and when the sun goes down and when she needs to go outside, so this morning, all snuggled in for my free hour of sleep, I heard the clicking of toenails coming down the hall, followed by a plaintive cry and a wet nose wriggled under the covers to nudge my arm, and so much for my free hour.
Hence, today’s Happy Quote:
“Happiness consists in getting enough sleep. Just that, nothing more. All the wealthy, unhappy people you’re ever met take sleeping pills; Mobile Infantrymen don’t need them. Give a cap trooper a bunk and time to sack out in it and he’s as happy as a worm in an apple – asleep.” ― Robert A. Heinlein, Starship Troopers
Maybe I’ll go to bed an hour earlier tonight (if I can force myself to), and find, as they say, blissful slumber.
Great quote! I honestly feel like I could conquer the world if I only got a good night’s sleep. Since having kids and a dog I’ve forgotten what it feels like to get more than a few hours of broken sleep a night. Yawn. Hope you get your blissful slumber without the tip tap of claws (I know them well!)
Starship Troopers was an excellent book, imo. I never would have expected you to pull a happiness quote from Heinlein, however, even though he is full of quotes that I love. 🙂
You are absolutely correct: the whole world works better if you get enough sleep. So much so, that when my brain starts quitting, I go back to bed: my body is telling me nothing but sleep (if possible), or rest (if sleeping is iimpossible) can help. The sooner I give in and get the extra rest, the sooner I can get back to my writing.
I had forgotten that quote. Thanks!
I’m full of surprises.
Glad to help. Now get to bed!
The tip tap of claws is the main reason I get out of bed every morning.
Again having a reason to thank you: you don’t need the details but they involved a panic attack – and being happy and grateful to already accidentally have the tools to deal with it. Your attitude rocks.
