Yesterday, I had a fantastic speaking engagement for a Fortune 100 company. It was leadership training on Unconscious Bias for their senior leadership team and the session went even better than any of us imagined. This had been months in the making, with multiple layers of approval required and several customization calls with the client. I had so many contacts with the HR director spearheading their Diversity & Inclusion initiative that I was thinking of her as much a friend as a client.

So yesterday after the session, as we were debriefing, I made a comment about her being an extrovert (she is very chatty and open), and she said she is the exact opposite. She’s what is known as a “highly social introvert.” She said it’s hard to explain, but I told her there was no need to — I fully understood what she was talking about. I then sent her one of my favorite graphics ever: Dr. Carmella’s Guide to Understanding the Introverted.

This is something I blogged about years ago and the response was phenomenal. This little cartoon is incredibly accurate. It perfectly describes both how an introvert feels, and how the rest of us should respect that. I heard from so many introverts who had never, ever seen this condition so clearly spelled out and felt waves of relief at having something to share with those who fail to comprehend what life is like for the non “people-people” among us.

I am so happy I shared this in the past, and loved being reminded of it again! It makes my day to get such heartfelt responses, and in a small way, this makes the world a better place.

I hope you love this as much as I do.

Please share it with everyone it might touch.
